Writing Emails That Are More Effective

By: Ricky Weber

Opt-in email marketing is a very popular and affordable marketing tool used by many different people who all have the exact same goal: to get their readers to take action of some kind. Writing emails that make people take action does not need to be complicated, and there are a few simple tips you can follow to make your emails as effective (and profitable) as possible, such as testing different headlines and writing a clear call to action for your readers.

One tip that you can use to increase how effective your email marketing campaigns will be is to take advantage of any of the analytics and statistics that are provided by your email marketing program. There are a few key metrics that can give you some great insight into how effective your email marketing efforts truly are, such as the "open rate" and the "click-through rate." The open rate will tell you how many times the email was opened by your readers compared to the total number of emails sent out, and the click-through rate will tell you how many people clicked on any of the links in the email.

Obviously if you want your email marketing campaign to be effective then your readers need to at least click your email to open it and read it. Since the open rate is such an important number to focus on, you will want to do whatever you can to make it as high as possible. One of the most effective ways for maximizing how many times your email gets opened is to experiment with different headlines to see which one will get the highest response. The headline is the main thing that controls whether or not people will even click to open it, and once they open it now you want them to take a certain action.

The next most important statistic is your click-through rate, and the best way to make this go as high as possible is to communicate effectively. Do not use a paragraph when a short sentence will do, and make sure that your call to action is very clear and compelling. Tell your reader exactly what you want them to do and tell them multiple times. Highlight the link that you want your readers to click on by putting it on a separate line, and list the link multiple times throughout the email. By focusing on these simple tips you will be able to write emails that are more effective and that receive a higher response.
