How To Make A Fortune With Hybrid Webinars

By: Tammy Lawman and Tom Antion

Tom Antion is known the world over for his expertise in internet marketing for small businesses. He is a full-time professional speaker with hundreds of major media appearances not only in the United States, but across the globe.

His simple three-pronged attack on internet marketing has made him wildly successful, and he now shares these secrets with his students so that they too can rake in $75,000 to $220,000 in a single month. Suffice it to say that Tom has become a true multi-millionaire in a staggeringly short span of time.

Tom is also the brains behind the renowned Let's Camp seminars, as well as the one-of-a-kind Internet Marketing Training Center in Virginia. His own internet marketing magazine is the largest in the industry, with over 100,000 subscribers in 80 countries.

Tammy Lawman: We're here to pick your brain a little bit today. We're going to be talking a little bit about hybrid webinars. Let's just get right into it. In the past you've been a big advocate against webinars, and now you're a self-described webinar freak. What made you change your mind?

Tom Antion: There were a couple of things. I do what I call dull-edge technology. I never stay on the cutting edge or what they call the bleeding edge because the newest stuff that's out is always the most expensive, has the most bugs in it, and is the least profitable. When webinars came on the scene, it was just too much trouble. The people who were trying to use the webinars would have to download and install software.

I've been doing full-time internet for 16 years, and I know that when you ask a regular person who's not a techie person to download and install something, you're going to have trouble. You're going to have customer service issues. Everybody is going to be frustrated. That's the way it was for a long time with webinars. Then eventually it got to the point where all they had to do was click a link, log on, listen, and watch.

That's when the turning point came for me, in part. It's easy enough to do. That's one reason I switched to webinars. They do have some advantages over teleseminars in that you can be much more interactive, and you can show visuals. However, from the deliverer's standpoint, it's a lot more work to create a good webinar. When I was doing teleseminars, I basically could write down some bullet points, knock out a teleseminar, and go home with thousands of dollars with very little sweat.

That was one of the things I resisted with doing webinars. One of the biggest things, the turning point for me, was when replay services started coming on the scene. You'd do the live seminar once, record it, and play it over and over again. I thought, "That's something." It is quite a hassle to do a live webinar. I don't think I'm smart enough, Tammy, to do that.

You have visuals you have to keep displaying, you have questions coming in through chat windows, and you have to keep talking. I usually have one or two of my assistants around whenever I do a live webinar. I thought, "That's good, but there must be a better way." That's why I had the total turning point when the replay services came along. I think I invented this.

I haven't invented much on the internet, but I think this is one of the things. It's called a hybrid webinar. We'll get into the details of that later. The bottom line is it's easier to do for the recipient. That's the critical key so I don't have people calling me. I can put 1,0000 people on these things with my big list. If 150 of them are calling at the last minute because they can't do it, it's total chaos. Now nobody calls. Everybody can click the link and get on there easily. That's why I'm a webinar freak now.

Tammy Lawman: I can relate to the live situation. It adds that little bit of stress and anxiety. You know that people are sitting there listening, and if anything technical goes wrong, you freak out. I haven't heard of this before. Can you explain what hybrid webinars are?

Tom Antion: I have to get a little bit on my soapbox here. I'm going on 56 years old, so I'm not one of these spring chickens who's selling internet stuff. A lot of them have never really made any money in their life before, but they're telling you how to get rich on the internet. What I have seen out of a lot of the younger people is they're lazy, and they don't really care about value.

They want the most money. I think we call this the Entitlement Generation. They want the most money with the least work. Naturally, when replay webinars came along, a lot of the young people and older people thought, "I'll just get rich. It will play automatically. I'll give no services to the people. I don't care as long as I make the money." I've been in business for myself 33 years, and I don't treat my customers like that.

I thought, "The live webinars are a hassle but important to have. The replays by themselves don't give good customer services or value because invariably people will have questions. What can I do to take a load off myself and give better value to my customers?" This is how I invented the hybrid. What I do is I play the replay. You have to do the live seminar once.

I'll get into the minutiae of why later. You do a live webinar, and then you record it. Then you use a replay service, but you are still there answering questions live. This has tremendous benefit for the users, and it sells way more than just playing the webinar with no one there. This is called a hybrid, and I invented it out of the feeling that I wanted to give great value and service to my customers. I'm pretty sure I invented this method.

Tammy Lawman: What are some of the finer points of delivering a hybrid webinar to make it easier on yourself?
