Affiliate Marketing Mistakes That Can Cripple Your Work From Home Business

Getting you work from home business with affiliate marketing is not hard. Setting up a good-looking website to operate from is easy as well. There are tons of affiliate products online and new products every day. (key the "Jaws" theme trailer here) So what could go wrong? (Show quick flash of a shark fin) Nothing could go wrong, could it?

The easiest thing in the world to do in affiliate marketing is make mistakes that will insure you failure. The first mistake is believing that just anyone can be an affiliate marketer instantly. It is not just about finding the highest paid commissions, getting signed up and watching the money flow.

It is great to find products that pay high commissions. But the amount they pay means absolutely nothing if they don't sell. Finding a quality affiliate program that has a high conversion rate will make you more money than a low quality product that does not convert. Research the products before committing time to marketing something that does nothing but hurt your creditability. When you promote poor products, your reputation will suffer and when you do put a good product up no one will trust you. If you are going to be an affiliate marketer you must be in it for the long haul. Think of your future.

The people you are an affiliate of are just as important as they products they have. Look at the quality of the marketing materials they have. How is their customer support? You will have fouls ups. You cannot stop foul-ups but how they handle them will determine your future success. Is their commission plan dependable? Will you get paid for your referrals? Selling a lot of product is great. Getting paid for what you sell is even greater.

The marketing method is critical. If he first goal of the site is to grab the email addresses to build someone else's list sales will take a back seat to sales. You will help them create a mailing list for their future products that will not include you getting paid. It must be your job to collect the email addresses, then converting the sales. Control the sale up to the point of completion.

Owning the product you are promoting may not be required. But if you don't believe in the product enough to own it don't you think that you may lose creditability as you write your ad copy. Remember you are building your business and you are the brand. If you get caught not understanding what you are selling what will your list think? Yes it may take a bite out of your profits but again you are building not only for today but for 20 years from now.

Do not short cut your responsibility to research and know your product. It can cost you more than just time. Be a leader for what you sell. Let your list know that you searched many products and you believe this is the best. Just don't guess it is the best.
