By: Adam Woods

Traffic analysis forms a very important component to every website or blog. While both of them are very important to your website, understanding the difference between them is very important. Your server logs can help you do this analysis pretty well as it holds both raw and interpreted data. If your site is hosted by the companies that provides summarized information, the better. You will definitely be at a position to know precisely where your traffic is coming from and the hits among many other things.

Traffic can be analyzed in two categories which is the traffic and the hits. Any click from any place over the internet qualifies to be a visitor and the fact will remain the same regardless of the number of times and the pages that the person visits. A click on any page of your website which represents numerous unique visitors is what hit is. The number of times that visitors look at your web pages through clicking still qualifies to be a hit.

As matter of fact, both visitors and hits are very important when it comes to analyzing traffic to your website. This will help you figure out the number of potential customers that may be coming to your site at any particular time. You can be at a position to understand very important information about your site with the help of hits. This cannot be shown by the visitors that come to your site. How effective your site is can be known through looking at the hits that come to your site. It's the hits that can tell you the quality of the traffic that comes to your site, not the visitors that end up in that site of yours.

You will be able to determine the depth of your site through looking g at the people who visit the internal pages of your site. This can be achieved by working out the ratio of the visitors to the hits that were achieved over a given period of time. This can help you understand very many things about your business. This may be a minor difference but it can help highlight the difference that exists between visitors to your site and the hits obtained during a certain period of time.
