RIC THOMPSON: We can hear you fine. We're really looking forward to you rocking this call out today.
KEITH WELLMAN: There have been some great presenters. You've done a great job putting some awesome guys together. I'm really honored to be a part of it. First of all, before you even kick off anything, I want everyone to know that just as Ric said, you're going to want to take plenty of notes for this call. I am going to be providing a supporting PowerPoint presentation for you to give to everybody, Ric.
I've already emailed that to your team. They have that in a PDF format. That way they have the supporting slides, so when they go to review this call later they can look at those slides and really grasp everything we've talked about today. There's some really good stuff. First of all, I'd like to tell you a little bit about where I came from and how this all came about. If you rewind to, probably, 10 years ago, just as Ric said, I was homeless in Michigan.
It's not the greatest place to be homeless, especially in the middle of winter. It was pretty cold. I remember thinking that I really had to figure out what I was doing in my life because I was living out of my car, freezing cold in the middle of winter. Here's what really made this snap in my mind of how ridiculous this was. You have to realize that I was sleeping in my car, moving from parking lot to parking lot-grocery store parking lots, shopping mall parking lots, and things like that.
I kept getting kicked out of the parking lot. "You have to move, sir. You can't stay here." Then one night, I thought, "What about a church? I should go to a church parking lot because a church is a safe place." It was kind of in the middle of the city. I found a nice little church and pulled into the parking lot one evening. It was probably 11:30 or midnight, somewhere around there. I piled all these blankets that I had in my trunk on top of me and tried to stay as warm as I could.
I had very limited gas, so I didn't want to keep my car running and use up all that gas. I would turn my car on once every hour-and-a-half to two hours just to reheat a little bit after getting so cold. It was the middle of the night, and I was fast asleep. I was in one of those half-sleeping modes because I was so uncomfortable because it was so cold. I was still asleep. All of a sudden, I heard this knock on my car door window.
Keep in mind it was dead quiet in this church parking lot, so it scared the crap out of me. I looked up, and there was this guy shining a flashlight in my car. I was really scared. Imagine all of a sudden waking up and having this guy pointing his light right in your eyes. Then I thought about it for a second, and I thought, "It could be the police. Who else has a flashlight with them? Maybe it's a police officer." I put the key in the ignition, turned it slightly, and started to roll down the window just a little bit.
I said, "Yes?" The guy said, "City Police. I'm Officer So-and-So. Can I ask what you're doing sitting here?" I said, "This is my home temporarily until I save up enough money from several part-time jobs to get a studio apartment." To make a long story short, he said, "This is probably the safest place for you. Obviously, you can't do this all the time. You need to find someplace to go." I said, "All right. That's no problem."
I ended up getting a studio apartment about a week later that I had saved up for. It really snapped at that moment. Anything could have happened. It could have been anybody standing there. It could have been someone trying to rob me. Who knows? I just realized, "This is awful. What am I doing with my life?" I made a decision right there that I needed a change. I needed something different.
A lot of you on this call, I'm sure, at some point in your life, have really had that moment where you just think, "Something has to give. I have to do something different because what I'm doing right now is not working." It may not have been as extreme as that situation, and it may have been even worse. It doesn't really matter. What matters is that you made that decision. A lot of you are on this call today because you made that decision.
You said, "What I'm doing right now is working 12 hours a day," or whatever it happens to be, "for somebody else, stressing myself out. It isn't working for me. I'm ready to do something else. I want to move forward and become successful. I want to become my own boss and entrepreneur and really live the lifestyle I want to live." If that's you, I'm so glad you're here. If that's not you, I'm curious to why you're here.
I assume that most, if not all, of you are very motivated, ready to rock and roll, and ready to see massive success in your life. What I'm about to share with you today can really provide that for you. First of all, I'd like to tell you a little bit about my reason for doing what I'm doing and what I'm about to teach you. My number-one reason is my wife. I say that because she's always been there for me, even through all the years I was spending money on different marketing projects and investing in my education.
She was always there for me, supporting those decisions. She was the one telling me, "It's okay to invest in your education. It's okay that you want to do this and you're trying, because even if you fail, it's what you're trying to do right now, and I want to support you." Having that type of person in your life, I feel, is probably the most important part of your future. You need to have somebody there who can support you instead of drawing from you, pulling you down, and being negative.
You have to surround yourself with those people who are going to push you up and forward. I'll tell you a big secret: you are not going to succeed the first time around. Maybe you won't succeed the second or even the third time around. It's the perseverance that will allow us the success that we want. She was there to see me through that and push me forward. This doesn't mean that it's not possible to become successful in the next week, month, or couple of months.
What it means is that you're going to try. Some things will work, and some things will fail. That's completely okay. Take those failures and learn from them.
