How To Do Research For Your Internet Business Product

By: Michael Tasker

So you have what appears like a great idea for a profitable internet business product that could be offered to a specific niche interest. The key action to take now is not head straight into product development, but to undertake some simple yet highly valuable research to determine if there is a hungry market waiting for such a product.

You should create a checklist of websites on the internet where you will be able to determine quite quickly whether that seemingly great idea can be translated into an in demand product. It should be no surprise that the first place to look is Google. The search engine has a keyword tool where you enter the keywords of your niche and it will show how many searches are conducted using such a keyword over the period of one month. It does not take long to build an understanding of the terms searched for, what is most popular and how much traffic such terms generate. Next, head over to the Google searches and find how many pages there are and what they contain. Ask yourself if there are product sales type websites or are they more informational, are they familiar websites or one man bands? Very soon, an overall picture can be created of the potential market for your product.

Whilst on Google, you should also look at the right hand column of adverts that may appear. These are called Google AdWords and are paid adverts placed by advertisers, the website owners. If there are no adverts, then don't just jump to the conclusion that you are the first to discover a gaping hole in the market which you can then exploit. It could be because others have tried and discovered that it is not economical to spend on advertising in that particular section of the market. A key aspect to remember is to ensure that there are at least two or three paid adverts to give you the comfort that money is being spent to advertise to what could be your potential customers.

Another place to visit to undertake valuable research includes Youtube. More and more people are now using it as their first port of call when they have a how to do query. Using your keywords, look at how many videos there are, how many times they have been viewed and why some have been viewed many more times than others. Are they conveying the particular solution that is being searched for? Is the number of searches for the same keyword higher in Youtube than Google? If so, it could be that this particular market prefers solutions delivered in video format.

To research the popularity of a niche, don't forget to use Amazon. It has become a very important search tool in its own right and it's the sales rank figures that are of interest. A book with a sales rank of less than one hundred thousand is a good guide of popularity within that particular market. Another similar website is ClickBank which offer affiliates the opportunity to sell a wide range of other people's digital products such as ebooks. The statistics include the number of sales made by affiliates and how popular it is with affiliates. Take a look at products that are popular and try to understand why they are popular, why an affiliate would promote one product over another.

Now you have a proven checklist of sources that you need to go to in order to undertake research for a profitable internet business product. You will not find a definite answer by visiting just Google. Get as much information as possible to build a picture of your intended niche market, how the prospects look for information within the market, what products are popular, in what format they are offered, how much competition and if paid advertising can be sustained. Once such information is gathered, you will have a good evidence to make a sound judgement.
