How to Promote Your Online Business by Writing Short Reports

By: Melissa Ingold

A really effective way to promote and market your online business is by writing short reports. Short reports can be as little as 15 to 20 pages long. Your short report can be a how to guide, a list of facts, or case studies and more. You can sell these at a low price, or give them away free. You can also give them to your affiliates to rebrand in order to help them market your products.

Reports, whether you sell them inexpensively, or give them away free, can be a fantastic and lucrative way to promote your online business by:

- giving your readers insight on what your other products will be like
- creating trust between you and your readers
- giving incentive to readers to sign up for your list
- bringing the reader into your product funnel
- can turn viral if you sell rights to your buyers
- giving readers a compelling call to action

If your report looks professional, has worthwhile information, and includes all the information that it should, such as your website and biographical information, links to your sales pages, and a call to action, it will lead to more sales. A complete report will alert readers to what your other products will be like.

When a new client reads your short report, enjoys it, learns from it, sees the quality, and gets results from the information you gave them, it will create a trusting relationship between you and the buyer. People do not spend money online on people they do not trust.

By giving a free report when someone signs up for your e-list they are more likely to sign up, which drops them right into your product funnel. By giving them the rights to share the report, whether free or not, it can make your report go viral. If the report is good enough, readers will pass it on. You can get results from a viral report months and even years down the road.

You need to know how to write a short report to make sure your report accurately promotes your business. Make sure you format it correctly, the typical way is to use PDF format so that it is not changeable. The only thing that should be changeable is possibly allowing your affiliates to rebrand the report with their own affiliate links, but other than that, the biographical information and the products it links to should stay the same.

You can use old articles, old blog posts, and even portions of eBooks that you already sell to write the short reports. More than likely you already have enough content on your website or blog to create your online business promoting short reports. All you have to do is organize them, format them, and start promoting them. It shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours to get started.

Don't forget to include your call to action at the end of your short report. Aside from a professional looking design, intelligent content, and useful information in your special report this is the most important element to include. Without a call to action your readers will not know what to do, so tell them, and reap the rewards of promoting your online business with short reports.
